What You’ll Do
As a Street Cleansing Operative, you’ll:

• Perform a variety of street cleansing tasks, including litter picking, manual sweeping, graffiti/fly-posting removal, emptying litter and dog bins, collecting needles, fly-tipping removal, weed spraying, dead animal/faeces removal, and leaf clearance.
• Ensure all assigned tasks are completed professionally, on time, and to the required quality standards, following safe working procedures.
• Maintain and operate vehicles, plant, and machinery in good working order, ensuring compliance with Health and Safety at Work Act and Road Traffic Regulations.
• Safely store and clean all tools, equipment, and vehicles under your control.
• Report accidents, near misses, or equipment issues promptly to management.
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions (rain, snow, wind, heat) to maintain Newport’s streets.
• Collaborate with other Streetscene services and staff to meet shared objectives and corporate priorities.
• Attend training courses as required, which may involve amended working hours on training days.

• Physically Fit: Able to perform manual tasks like sweeping, lifting, and walking in all weather conditions.

• Proactive: Capable of reporting issues (e.g., accidents, equipment faults) promptly and ensuring equipment is properly maintained.
• Adaptable: Comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions and attending training as needed.
• Detail-Oriented: Able to follow safe working procedures and maintain cleanliness of tools and vehicles.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

• Experience in street cleansing or a similar outdoor manual role.
• Familiarity with Health and Safety regulations and safe working practices.
• Basic knowledge of operating and maintaining small machinery or equipment.
